| AMERICAN FOOTBALL UNVEILS NEW SINGLE & OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO “NO FEELING” FEATURING TURNSTILE’S BRENDAN YATES NO FEELING WORLD TOUR ON-SALE NOW NEW ALBUM AMERICAN FOOTBALL (LP4) OUT MAY 1 VIA POLYVINYL ![]() Press Photo (Alexa Viscius) / download HERE Today, Midwest-rock icons American Football have released their brand new single, “No Feeling,” featuring Turnstile frontman Brendan Yates, via Polyvinyl Record Co. The track serves as the latest single off their highly anticipated fourth studio album American Football (LP4), out May 1. |
| Produced by Sonny DiPerri (Nine Inch Nails, My Bloody Valentine, Portugal. The Man), “No Feeling” catches the band at a point of no return, teetering on the edge of self-destruction, where feeling itself loses meaning. Beautifully layered with ethereal synths, the band’s trademark interwoven guitars, baritone-accented chimes, sultry, confessional vocals of band frontman Mike Kinsella, with the unmistakable harmonies of Yates, the song is elevated to a point of real catharsis while welcoming listeners into its sobering embrace. Kinsella shares: “Brendan came into the studio to sing along to a ‘gang vocal’ call-and-response part I’d written for the chorus of “No Feeling.” I had imagined his voice would be one of many voices scream-singing it, and was excited for it to be a sort of Easter Egg on the album. But after tracking the original parts, he asked if he could try a higher harmony that he was hearing. As soon as he started singing it, all of our jaws dropped, and we all were looking at each other like “Oh shit! THAT’S the dude from Turnstile!” His voice is so singular, and once he sang the part in *his* range, it was clear that the part now belonged to him and him alone…” The tracks’ music video, directed by Cady Buche & Travis Barron of Unlimited Time Only (Khruangbin & Leon Bridges’ “Chocolate Hills,” Little Dragon’s “Slugs of Love,” Roosevelt’s “Luna”), plays into this morbid, yet entrancing mindset, taking the form of a hallucinogenic animation that depicts ghost-like creatures aboard a sunken ship, dancing and celebrating their last moments before a submarine finds them deep underwater, pulling them above board and effectively sending these creatures into a spiral upon finding fresh air. Buche and Barron share: “Our goal with music videos is to tell a story that captures what we think and feel while listening to the song. When we listened to “No Feeling” for the first time, we thought a lot about mysterious places like outer space and the bottom of the ocean—they’re beautiful and they also kind of freak you out. The music also brought to mind the idea of going down with the ship or a sense of crushing inevitability. Then we thought, what if you flipped that? What if you opened on a sunken ship and that was the beginning? What if this sunken ship were a thriving habitat for ghosts who live there? What if something came along that jeopardized their beautiful afterlife?” With LP4, the band faces some of life’s harshest realities head-on, reflecting on the disorientation, compromise, grief, and hard-won perspective of middle age. Overhauling their writing and recording processes, the band has effectively created their most sonically ambitious album to date, layered, dissonant, occasionally confrontational, and always deeply felt. “Bad Moons,” the album’s lead single, serves as an embodiment of what’s to come with the band’s upcoming new album. |
| American Football is set to bring LP4 to their fans across their 2026 world tour. Kicking off this May, the band will return to the road for an expansive four-month run, with dates across the United States, Europe, UK, Asia, and Canada, and more to be announced. The tour marks American Football’s first full run of shows since their sold-out 2024/ 2025 LP1 25th Anniversary Tour, with a variety of dates sold-out or at low ticket capacity, new performances announced at upgraded venues in Philadelphia, Toronto, and Cologne, a second date in London, a run of shows across Asia, and an opening performance for Bleachers at Red Rocks this fall, to meet the massive demand from American Football fans. In response to the deadly violence and intimidation around the country provoked by ICE, American Football will be partnering with PLUS1 to donate $£1/€1 from every ticket sold across the tour to Safe Passage International & The Illinois Coalition for Immigration & Refugee Rights; two essential organizations defending immigrant rights and supporting deportees, migrants and refugees. | American Football (LP4) Artwork // download HERE ABOUT AMERICAN FOOTBALL: Before attaining global recognition as a defining pillar of the “Midwest Emo” sub-genre, American Football was a humble University of Illinois-based indie rock band led by Mike Kinsella (founding Cap’n Jazz drummer-turned-vocalist-and-guitarist), along with Steve Holmes (guitar) and Steve Lamos (drums/trumpet). Together, American Football would play no more than a dozen sparsely attended shows before going their separate ways – the band’s parting gift would be shared in the form of a self-titled album, released in 1999 via the locally founded Polyvinyl Record Co. What would transpire over the ensuing fifteen years, however, is something made of rock and roll legend – early file-sharing platforms allowed for the lore of an otherwise unknown band to grow into something much larger. In 2014, American Football would reunite to international acclaim. With the addition of bassist/multi-instrumentalist and cousin Nate Kinsella, the quartet has since released two additional (and equally beloved) self-titled records in 2016 and 2019, while steering a natural evolution in their evergreen sound towards post-rock, post-punk, and more experimental influences. Hailed as the “most influential album in the genre” by Pitchfork, American Football spent the last two years honoring its 25th anniversary of their self-titled debut – colloquially known as “LP1,” by embarking on a sold-out world tour and sharing a remastered edition of the landmark record. They’ve put out their first live album and released a companion concert film of its recording, and found an overwhelming embrace among a new generation of fans. As spring approaches in 2026, so does new growth, as the band prepares to share their highly anticipated new project, LP4, with the world on May 1 and kick off their globetrotting 2026 world tour on May 15.
