Sunstroke Caravan – Rock Rage Radio Interview

1. Tell our Rock Fans about the band’s latest release. Where did the band record, with who, and what was the experience like?

We actually recorded everything ourselves — partly in a garage and partly in Kendall Wynott’s basement. The experience was awesome because it gave us full control to really zero in on every detail and make sure each part matched what we wanted to express emotionally through the music. There’s something special about capturing those raw, honest moments where you’re not just playing notes, you’re playing the character of the song. We really tried to channel that authenticity — to make every track feel alive and true to what we were feeling at the time.

2. How long was the writing process and what inspired you on this release?

We’ve been working on these songs over the past year, taking a more modern approach by releasing one single at a time instead of dropping a full album all at once. Things have changed a lot in the music world — it’s more about consistent releases now, so we’ve been spacing them about a month apart and focusing on making sure each one stands strong on its own.

When it comes to writing, we try to pull ideas straight from each other — from that universal energy you tap into when you’re really present and connected. It’s about being quiet enough to let those emotions surface and then shaping them into something that feels honest. Each song has its own emotional core, and our goal is to translate that feeling as authentically as possible.

3. What changed during this process from previous releases?

Three of us — myself, Matt Wilson, and Mike Morine — were in a previous band together, and Kendall Wynott and I actually played in a band about 20, maybe even 25 years ago. So there’s a lot of shared history and chemistry in this lineup. Coming back together just felt natural, like we already understood each other’s creative direction before even saying much.

What’s really changed this time around is how much we’ve each honed in on our own craft. We’ve matured — both as musicians and as people — and that’s reflected in the music. Everything we release now feels authentic and emotionally grounded. The songs speak to what people are going through today — the challenges, the confusion, the resilience — all those human experiences that connect us.

In a way, this release bridges our past and present. Where our earlier material might have leaned more on introspection, this one feels like it’s in sync with what’s happening in the world right now. It’s both personal and outward-looking — and I think that balance is what makes it stand out.

4. What’s next for the band? Any tours or festivals lined up?

We’ve got a few shows in the works — both locally and regionally — and we’re also talking with a few artist reps to see about lining up some festival dates in the new year. We’re really looking forward to that, especially with the momentum from these new releases.

On top of that, we’re heading back into the “studio” — which in our case is mostly the garage — later this month to start tracking another five songs we’ve got ready. We’ll also be doing some writing over the winter, so it’s a good balance of staying creative while getting ready for the spring and summer touring season.

We like releasing singles one at a time — it gives each song its own space to breathe and connect with listeners. So fans can definitely expect a steady stream of new music heading into next year.

5. Describe your live show to a fan who hasn’t seen you perform before.

Live, we’re energetic and a little bit on the edge — a solid rock-alternative band with a lot of drive. If you’ve never seen us before, definitely come out. It’s an experience worth having. We put a lot of focus on connecting with the crowd — that’s a huge part of what we do. True engagement and authenticity on stage are everything to us, and we really feed off that exchange of energy with the audience.

6. What’s your favorite song to play live?

It’s a tough call, but probably No Tomorrow or Dead Alive. Both are highly energetic, really fun to play, and they carry that kind of underdog spirit that we relate to. They’re powerful songs that always seem to click with the crowd.

7. If you could collaborate on a song or tour with any band, who would it be and why?

We’d love to collaborate with some incredible Canadian acts like Sloan or Wintersleep — both are huge influences. Playing with Matt Mays or Adam Baldwin would be amazing too; they’re phenomenal local artists who’ve really paved the way for Atlantic rock.
If it were up to me personally, I’d say Pearl Jam. I grew up on alternative rock and grunge, and Pearl Jam has always been one of those bands that stuck with me. That kind of energy and sincerity in their music has had a lasting impact.

8. What drives you as a musician?

Connection and creativity. Music has always been a place of healing for me — a way to express and process emotions — but it’s really about that connection. When you’re on stage and everything clicks, there’s this feeling of being part of something bigger than yourself. Those moments of serendipity and shared emotion are what make it all worth it.

9. Which band member gets the most attention from fans?

Definitely our drummer, Matt Wilson. He always steals the spotlight somehow!

10. Who’s the laziest band member when it comes to load-in and load-out?

Also Matt Wilson — without question. He’s usually the first one ready for a nap while the rest of us are hauling gear.

11. What’s the single greatest musical memory so far while being in the band?

We played a festival down in Barrington Passage — its first year running — and it was incredible. The crowd was so engaged, the atmosphere was amazing, and it was extra special because my family was there. It was the first time my young kids saw me perform live, which made it a pretty unforgettable moment.

12. If the band were thrown into a wrestling battle royal, which member would win? Who would be the first to be thrown over the ropes?

Mike Morine would probably take the win — he’s got that quiet determination that sneaks up on you. As for who’d be thrown over the ropes first? Definitely Matt Wilson… or maybe Kendall Wynott. Honestly, those two would probably end up ro-sham-bo’ing for it mid-ring to decide who goes over first.

13. What can fans expect next from the band?

More live shows and a lot more music. We’ve got several new songs dropping over the next few months, and we’re really excited about what’s coming. We truly appreciate everyone who’s been listening, sharing, and supporting us — it means a lot. We think you’ll love what’s next.
